Yoga For Beginners: The Best Way To Start

Yoga For Beginners

Yoga is relaxing, stress relieving, good for your mind AND body health – plus it’s a great form of exercise!

But ahh where do you start??

You could definitely just head over to some drop-in classes at your local gym or yoga studio, that’s great because you have someone coaching you and correcting your mistakes. But if you’re like me and prefer doing yoga at home, or prefer not to spend the money, here’s where I suggest you start:

 Sun Salutation

It’s essentially a simple set of poses that are perfect for everyone including beginners, and it can been done pretty quickly too. I’ve try to start every day with this when I can!

While I’m not a pro or anything remotely close, I have been doing yoga for many years (since I was in high school actually!), I’ve been to a ton of classes, and I’ve watched and read a lot about yoga. It’s something that brings me a lot of joy and peace, and that’s why I’d love to offer a little bit of advice to anyone who’s been thinking about giving it a try!

My Tips:

  1.  You will get better and more flexible, but don’t expect it to happen in one session. Stop pushing yourself as soon as you start to feel tightness in your muscles, then gradually through deep breathes push yourself a little further.
  2. Spend time in each pose, I suggest at least 15 seconds. This increases your strength and flexibility and makes it less likely that you will injure your muscles.
  3. Don’t worry about how it looks! Do what feels comfortable for you. Every time you do a pose, try to get close and closer to how it looks in the image and you will eventually get there (or not and that’s totally good too, these poses are amazing regardless).
  4. Breathe deeply, in through your nose and out through your mouth. Just trust me, it’s wonderful.

Good luck with your yoga journey friends! ♥

  1. I like the sun salutation idea! I’ve recently joined a barre and yoga studio, so I’ve been trying out yoga. I am a major beginner and not as flexible as I used to be, but I love how happy I am after yoga.

    Thanks for sharing 🙂

Yes! I love how accessible yoga is. You don’t have to be experienced, fit, bendy, at all to get the benefits of it. Ooh it warms my heart!
I hope this post helps you incorporate more yoga into your life lovey!

      Thanks for stopping by!
