When You See Something Beautiful In Someone

I read a quote recently as I was mindlessly browsing Pinterest (you know, probably looking at home decor that I’ll only ever dream of having), and it hit me pretty hard. It might seem strange, but this quote was really powerful to me. “When you see something beautiful in someone, tell them.” – Unknown It’s a pretty simple concept, and at first it doesn’t seem very powerful. In fact, at first glance it seems pretty easy and natural. But after thinking about it for a minute, you might realize that it’s much more than it seems. I think part of … Read More

An Honest Update

I haven’t posted in a while and it makes me sad :(. I’ve had a lot going on the past few months and I’ve been waiting until things slow down a bit to post again. I hate that though, because it’s like trying to wait for the perfect time to do something, even though I know that the perfect time is never going to come. So, I’m posting regardless. My husband has been going through a really, really hard time recently. So I’ve been really focused on supporting him. I’d like to talk about it, but I’ll wait until I get the … Read More

I had watermelon with fresh mint yesterday, and put fresh oregano in my eggplant parmesan (recipe soon!). Mmm fresh herbs are LIFE! If you are able to, please please get a couple pots of fresh herbs for your house, you will be so happy. 🙂 I think this winter my windowsills will be covered in potted herbs! Ooh or maybe I’ll do one of those … Read More

Why I Lie When I’m Asked About My Dream Career

What job do you want when you graduate? It’s a question University students get asked all the time. Regrettably, it’s a hard question to answer for almost any Uni student. So why do I lie? Well here’s how the conversation usually goes. So, what job do you want to get when you graduate? Oh, honestly I’m open to anything. Maybe an administrative position, something in HR(maybe I’ll list off a bunch of things I’ve heard you can get with a BA). And then I laugh and say, maybe one day I’ll be able to make some money from my blog … Read More

Are Bloggers Self-Centred?

OK. So the nature of blogging is that someone is talking, and usually they talk a lot about themselves and their lives. Usually, people like to read about that stuff. But is it ever too much? Are all bloggers in love with themselves and their own opinions? Do they just love hearing (seeing?) themselves talk? First of all, is being self-centred a bad thing? In my opinion, it is. Here me out. I think being self-centred specifically is a bad thing. But I think that it’s very important that we’re all strong, independent individuals that formulate our own views and take care … Read More

5 Most Important Tips for Food Photography

Whether you just take the occasional picture of sushi for Instagram, or you’re a passionate food blogger, you probably know that it takes a bit of effort to get a good picture. Well, hopefully I can help you with a few tips of my own! I’ve been doing photography for about 5 years, which is even longer than I’ve been blogging for! A lot of food bloggers write these posts and show how ugly their earliest food pictures were. I’ll be honest, since I had already been doing photography for a while, my food pics weren’t all that bad! Nonetheless, … Read More

No One Is You

^^Take a look at this quote. For me, that’s what gives me life and motivation. Sometimes I feel like I don’t have much to give, like I’m just an average person like everyone else. But reading this reminds me that it’s not so bleak. There’s not one single person that is just your average person who’s like everyone else. We’re all unique and we all have something special to give to the world. I’m sure you’ve heard something like this a million times, but have you really ever given in a thought. There is not one single person that has … Read More

When the Darkness Visits

I wrote this for my beautiful husband recently, while he was in a hard fight against depression. Once before in his life he battled it at a much darker time and he overcame it, fell in love and married me. So, to all those who read this and experience the darkness too, please believe that it will pass, and soon it will loosen its grip and you will be joyful, creative, and passionate, and see beauty once again. He brightens my life in every way imaginable. Now his eyes are empty and dim. Brief moments they light up again, like when … Read More

Quality of the Week: Determination

As you may know, each week I challenge myself to working on a new quality that I want to improve. Last “week” the challenge was honesty, here’s a link to the post. Well, since I’m being honest I could have done better. It was a hard one to remember and I didn’t make a point of reminding myself every day to be honest. So that part of it wasn’t so good. Yet, when I did remember and did encourage myself to be honest, it went really well. The satisfaction you get from being your genuine self is really rewarding. It’s hard … Read More

The Liebster Award Nomination!

Hello Everyone! I am feeling so grateful today! Recently I was nominated for the Leibster Award by Samantha, who runs her self titled blog. Thank you so much! <3 What is a Liebster Award? Liebster means something along the lines of beautiful in German. This award is by bloggers, for bloggers. Basically bloggers nominate other bloggers that they think are doing something beautiful. They then respond to a bunch of questions about themselves and nominate a few more bloggers. It’s basically a chain that’s passed through the blogging community. Basically, it’s intended to give recognition to bloggers that deserve it. How sweet is … Read More

Quality of the Week: Honesty

If you’ve been keeping up with me, I’m sorry for the lack of posts! Sometimes things just get crazy around here. Now that I’m back on track it’s time to get back to my weekly challenge! This week I’m working on honesty. I’ve tried to research the difference between honesty and truthfulness, and it is quite hard to find a clear distinction. My understanding has always been that honesty is something that you have within yourself and truthfulness is the outward expression of honesty. I could most definitely be wrong, but since it is my blog I’m just going to … Read More

During Tragedy, Look For The Helpers

My heart has been heavy since Friday November 13th. I can’t take my mind off of the fact that so many lives were unjustly cut short, and so many other people whose lives will forever be changed. All of this is due to the actions of some very misguided individuals. My mind keeps coming back to thinking about Paris and all the lives that were affected. I’ve been spending a lot of time on social media reading about all of the events that are going on. I am sad to admit that I too, did not know about a lot of the other … Read More

Quality of the Week Challenge: Gratitude

Last Week’s Challenge Recap: The quality that I focused on last week was compassion (click here to read the post for it). Some people are naturally very compassionate and others have to put much more effort into learning compassion. I’m naturally quite compassionate and genuinely care about others and want to make them happy. But, as for most people, it’s much harder to be compassionate when you’re not feeling your best, we all get self-centred. That was really what I focused on when I was working on compassion this week. I focused on being compassionate especially when it didn’t come as … Read More

Quality of the Week Challenge: Compassion

I want to be the best person that I can be. The most kind, loving, selfless, intelligent, thoughtful, joyful me that I can be. All to often I find myself falling into complacency in my life, where I just do whatever I need to do without much thought. A life like that is a horribly hollow one that I want none of. While trying to move away from a complacent hollow life I’ve realized that I’m not used to taking time to reflect and improve myself. But I’ve recently realized that if I want to be the best version of myself then … Read More

Our Amazing Universe

Our universe is amazing. I’ve been reading a lot the past few days about outer space, and it’s blowing my mind! Contemplating the scale of our universe makes you see how simply minuscule we are in comparison. We’ve hardly explored our own galaxy and yet there are billions more, literally, throughout the universe that we can only imagine. I love that at any moment, but especially on a dark clear night, we can look up and see amazing beauty that blows our minds and makes us think about bigger things than a superficial life. How are money, possessions, and petty problems, … Read More

Hello! Sorry that I’ve been MIA for a while now, but I think I have a pretty good reason! Suddenly, my husband and I got the opportunity to move out of our little condo to a house…with…space! I have loved our little condo, but as you can see, I traded it in an instant to upgrade to an actual house. The only catch was that we basically had to move 3 days after we found out it was happening! To me that was a huge relief, if we had to wait a month I don’t know what I would have done … Read More
